WOLFF NAMED HEAD COACH FOR TEAM CANADA WEST


Coquitlam Express Head Coach and GM Barry Wolff is going back to the World Junior A Challenge. This time around he will guide Team Canada West as the Head Coach.

The 2016 World Junior A Challenge will be played in Bonnyville, Alberta from December 11th-17th.



This will be the third time that Wolff will serve on the coaching staff for Team Canada West. But this will be the first time he will be the Head Coach.

He served as an assistant coach in 2010 and at last years event helping Team Canada West win the gold medal. Barry also served as a guest coach and talent evaluator in preparation leading up to the 2014 World Junior A Challenge for Team Canada West. 

“It is a great honor to be selected as the Head Coach of Team Canada West and I look forward to working with the elite level players and a great staff, said Barry Wolff. I am excited for this opportunity to represent Canada again at the World Junior A Challenge.”

HAYWARD TO PLAY FOR TEAM CANADA WEST


Express forward Blake Hayward has made the cut and will play for Team Canada West at the upcoming World Junior A Challenge. Captain Jackson Cressey unfortunately didn't make the team.

Hayward (98) is in his first full season in the BCHL with the Express. He has 3 goals and 7 points in 29 games this season. This will be his first opportunity to play at the World Junior A challenge which will take place in Coburg and Whitby Ontario from December 13-19. The first game for Team Canada West will be on the 13th vs Czech Republic Click here for schedule

The 22 man roster consists of 9 players from the BCHL, 11 players from the AJHL and 2 from the MJHL.

Express Head Coach and GM Barry Wolff will serve as an assistant coach for Team Canada West. He previously served in that role at the 2010 tournament in Penticton.

Previous Express alumni to take part in the World Junior A Challenge include Kyle Turris, Tyler McNeely, Brodie Reid, Alexander Kerfoot, Brandon Morley and Zach Pryzbek.

CRESSEY & HAYWARD INVITED TO TEAM CANADA WEST SELECTION CAMP

Express forwards Captain Jackson Cressey and Blake Hayward have been invited to selection camp for Team Canada West for the upcoming World Junior A Challenge.

Selection camp will take place from December 5-8 in Leduc, Alberta. A total of 60 players have been invited and they will play four intrasquad games.

Jackson Cressey is in his third full season in the BCHL. Prior to the 2015-16 season he was named the Express captain. He's had a breakout season thus far with 11 goals and 27 points through 20 games this season. In 138 career BCHL games the West Vancouver native has 31 goals and 81 points.

Earlier this season Cressey accepted a scholarship to Princeton University for the fall of 2016. Cressey was a member of the Express 2014 Fred Page Cup championship team.

Blake Hayward is in his first full season in the BCHL. He has 2 goals and 5 points in 24 games this season. One of his goals this season is a game winning goal. In 29 career games with the Express Hayward has 5 career points.


This years World Junior A challenge will take place from December 13-18 in Cobourg and Whitby Ontario.

Express Head Coach and GM Barry Wolff will serve as an assistant coach for Team Canada West. This will be his second stint coaching at the World Junior A challenge. He also served as an assistant at the 2010 event in Penticton.

The last time the Express were represented at the World Juinor A Challenge was 2012 when Alexander Kerfoot, Zach Pryzbek and Brandon Morley dressed for Team Canada West.

WOLFF NAMED TO TEAM CANADA WEST STAFF

Coquitlam Express GM and Head Coach Barry Wolff has been named an assistant coach for Team Canada West for the 2015 World Junior A Challenge this coming December in Whitby and Cobourg Ontario. Click here for Hockey Canada press release

This will be the second time the veteran bench boss will be a part of the Team Canada West coaching staff. He was also an assistant at the 2010 event in Penticton. Barry also volunteered his time last year to help former Merritt Centennials Head Coach Luke Pierce at the selection camp for Team Canada West.

Before Barry begins to work on his Team Canada West responsibilities he is busy with the Express training camp. They will begin their exhibition schedule Thursday evening on the road at the Langley Events Centre to take on the Rivermen at 5pm. The Express will host the Rivermen Saturday night in Coquitlam.
