EXPRESS FIRST EXHIBITION WIN

The Coquitlam Express picked up their first win of the pre-season with a 4-3 decision over the Surrey Eagles from the Port Coquitlam recreation complex.

Things started well for Coquitlam with first period goals by Jackson Cressey on the powerplay and a goal by Matt Michie 1:13 later after Surrey netminder Christian Short got crossed up in his crease.

The second period saw Surrey's Darius Davidson score twice in the first 11 minutes to even the score.

Michael Revalakis who showed the fight of a pit bull throughout the night helped set up a 2 on 1 in the the neutral zone followed up on the play to bang home the rebound from the odd man rush to restore the Express lead.

28 seconds later Surrey tied it again on a goal by Chase McMurphy.

Pierce Dushenko got his first start of the exhibition playing 40 minutes turning aside 19 of the 22 shots sent his way.

Brendan Soucie broke the deadlock in the third period for the Express showing great patience with the puck before beating Danny Davidson.

Adam Derochie had a perfect third period in the Express crease making 14 saves.

The Express were 1 for 6 on the powerplay while Surrey was 1 for 3.

Thursday night the Express are in Hope for their next exhibition game vs. Chilliwack.  They wrap up exhibition play Friday at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre vs. Powell River.
